"Reach down until you feel her. Is she simmering just beneath the surface, or is she buried so deeply she's but a nagging feeling of dread when you least expect it? She was born of your trauma. She begs, pleads, cries, screams to be heard. She will not be silenced until you acknowledge her. Hear me, she says. I have kept your anger, your hurt, your betrayal for you. Accept her, thank her, take her by the hand. Hug her. Tell her you love her. Honor her, respect her, love her. Only by this will she give you peace."
The angry wild woman was unearthed during a course designed to discover my soul purpose. The drawings I made during this course of self-discovery were haunted by a shadow figure that showed up in various forms. When pressed to identify the shadow, I surprised to find that instead of representing the source of my trauma, she was actually me. The part of myself that was pure rage, always accessible, never quite silent, that just wanted to be acknowledged and loved. Bringing this primal energy into the world as a painting has given her peace, and brought peace to myself in turn.
“Transformation: Who I Was / Who I Am Becoming”
Giclee print of transformed painting, 16”x20” acrylic on canvas. This work was created during a course on finding my soul purpose. The original painting, on the left, of who I was, was “transformed” by painting over it to reflect who I am becoming during this work.
The young girl on the left feels trapped by her trauma. Gagged so she can't speak, her eyes closed, her ears covered, her wrists bound so tightly they bleed, her tears flow silently. Still, she feels safe within herself. Do you see yourself in her?
The woman on the right is the same girl, grown and healed by the love of the Universe. Her eyes opened, her ears exposed, she speaks freely. Her unbound wrists hold the sacred lotus of enlightenment. She wishes to give you this gift. Can you see yourself in her as well? Because she wishes this for you now.
Find your healing, your empowerment, your enlightenment, your teacher, your unconditional love for yourself, and you will become like her when you are ready.
